The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released this informational bulletin regarding flexibilities that states may use to facilitate easier access to medically necessary and time-sensitive drugs for Medicaid beneficiaries by expanding the scope of practice and services that can be provided by pharmacists. The bulletin provides examples in which states have empowered pharmacists to prescribe and/or administer nicotine replacement therapy and other tobacco cessation treatment, as well as other medications.
