Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report

Amy Heinzerling, MD, MPH, an OHB Public Health Medical Officer, led an investigation of hospital health care personnel (HCP) exposures to the first known community-acquired case of COVID-19 in the U.S. The investigation findings, published in CDC’s MMWR, identified risk factors for disease transmission to HCP, and emphasized the importance of early diagnosis of patients with COVID-19 and appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to minimize high-risk exposures.

Emergency Temporary Standards Continue to Be in Effect

COVID-19 Prevention Emergency Temporary Standards, a California regulation passed in November 2020, applies to most workers in California not covered by Cal/OSHA’s Aerosol Transmissible Diseases standard
