Preconception Health

Preconception care is recognized as a critical component of health care for women of reproductive age. The main goal of preconception care is to provide health promotion, screening and interventions for women of reproductive age to reduce risk factors that might affect future pregnancies. Optimal preconception health will be achieved not only through effective clinical care for women but also through collaboration with individuals, systems and communities to change knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to reproductive health.

The Maternal and Child Health Division is partnering with organizations and stakeholders across the state to provide direction for the integration of preconception care into public health practice and promote preconception health messages to women of reproductive age.
