Neurologic Surveillance and Testing (NST)
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Neurologic Surveillance and Testing (NST) program has ended and CDPH staff are no longer available for consultation on cases of unusual or unexplained neurologic illness.
CDPH continues to conduct enhanced viral testing and surveillance for patients with acute flaccid myelitis (AFM). If your patient has acute onset of limb weakness, please visit the AFM web page for instructions on how to report and submit specimens.
For other neurologic illness concerns, the Viral and Rickettsial Disease Laboratory may be able to offer laboratory support. A list of available laboratory tests for known etiology agents of neurologic illness, such as rabies, enterovirus, or subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE), can be found in the Guidelines to Viral and Rickettsial Disease Laboratory Services.
