× The federal government has shut down due to the failures of the President and Congress to continue government funding. Millions of Californians receiving benefits from state programs may be impacted. For now, California’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) will continue to provide services and enroll eligible families as long as funding is available. No new federal funding to California WIC will be provided until the President and Congress take action. Families should continue to use their WIC benefits and attend their WIC appointments. California WIC State Plan

The State Plan is a written agreement between the United States Department of Agriculture and CDPH/WIC Division that assures compliance with federal program requirements. The plan is submitted each year and covers October through September of each year.

Goal I: Maximize Participation in the WIC Program
Process Objective

By 9/30/2023, evaluate the need and feasibility for statewide WIC media and outreach services.

​Outcome Objective

​By 9/30/2023, release WIC specific data sharing agreement guidance to WIC local agencies for review.

​Process Objective

​By 9/30/2023, continue virtual video appointment support beyond the COVID-19 public health emergency with a statewide contracted telehealth platform.


Goal II: Promote and Support Breastfeeding

Process Objective

By 9/30/2023, provide training and educational resources to new WIC local agencies that are starting a Breastfeeding Peer Counseling program.

​Outcome Objective

​By 9/30/2023, develop at least two social media toolkits to promote the WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counseling program and the Regional Breastfeeding Liaison program.

​Process Objective

​By 9/30/2023, identify nutrition education best practices for nutrition education plans. This will include identifying best practices for anticipatory breastfeeding guidance and infant feeding support.
