August 2022 Breastfeeding and Chestfeeding Observances
The California Department of Public Health/Women, Infants and Children Division (CDPH/WIC) and the Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health Division (MCAH) have developed a social media toolkit to spread the word about the importance of breastfeeding and chestfeeding* and connect families to helpful WIC and MCAH resources.
The contents of the toolkit can be shared during August 2022 Breastfeeding and Chestfeeding awareness observances:
- National Breastfeeding Month: August 1ā31
- World Breastfeeding Week: August 1ā7
- Indigenous Milk Medicine Week: August 8ā14
- Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Breastfeeding Week: August 15ā21
- Black Breastfeeding Week: August 25ā31
*Chestfeeding is the process of nurturing and feeding a child human milk, donor milk or artificial milk from a person's chest. It is a term that can be used by anyone, but often is used by transgender people and nonbinary people for whom the word breastfeeding is not an ideal fit.
For more information, read about Transgender and Non-binary Parents by La Leche League International.
