× The federal government has shut down due to the failures of the President and Congress to continue government funding. Millions of Californians receiving benefits from state programs may be impacted. For now, California’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) will continue to provide services and enroll eligible families as long as funding is available. No new federal funding to California WIC will be provided until the President and Congress take action. Families should continue to use their WIC benefits and attend their WIC appointments. This information is subject to change, so please monitor the California WIC website for updates.

Please be wary of potential highly partisan political messaging while visiting federal government websites for information related to the federal government shutdown.

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Center for Health Care Quality (CHCQ) is holding a stakeholder meeting to discuss the patient needs waiver related to the 3.5 skilled nursing facility (SNF) staffing requirements enacted in SB 97 (Chapter 52, Statutes of 2017). Health and Safety Code section 1276.65 (c)(2) requires the Department to develop a waiver process for SNFs seeking a waiver to address individual patient needs. The emergency regulations for the patient needs waiver requires SNFs that will meet the 3.5 direct care hours requirement but would like to waive the use of 2.4 CNAs based on the needs of their patients to use the program flexibility process. In developing the final regulations, the Department would like to discuss and hear your ideas for creating criteria for the patient needs waiver. Please come to the meeting prepared to share your comments and suggestions.

For additional questions/comments please email the stakeholder forum email box at: CHCQStakeholderForum@cdph.ca.gov.
