University of California students

If you’re a University of California (UC) student seeking medication abortion services, follow these steps.

Step 1: Have your student ID number ready

It's helpful to know the date of your last period and the date of the period you recently missed. It’s OK if you don’t know these.

Step 2: Call your student health center

Find the number for your campus.

Step 3: Follow the script

Hello, I am student at [your campus] and I am/might be pregnant and do not want to be. I would like to schedule an appointment to see if I can get a medication abortion. What appointments do you have available? I understand that most insurance plans in California (including UC SHIP) will cover medication abortion at no cost to me, as long as I receive services from a provider in my insurance plan network. Can you help schedule an appointment or determine where I can get these services for free?

Step 4: Schedule an appointment

Choose a time that works for you. Your student health center can refer you to other providers if what they have available doesn’t work for you.

Step 5: Show up to your scheduled appointment

You can bring a supportive friend or family member. Take the prescribed medication abortion pills as instructed. Follow any after-care instructions.
