Suicide Prevention Video Image ā€‹Suicide Prevention

On June 13, 2019, the VPI team hosted a webinar highlighting suicide prevention where CDPH suicide-related data briefs and local efforts were discussed and an update regarding the Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission (MHSOAC) on the CA Suicide Prevention Plan revision was provided. This webinar also highlighted the local level suicide prevention efforts of the Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency. This was the first in a series of VPI Community of Practice webinars for local health departments and violence prevention partners throughout California.

Using Data to Drive Violence Prevention Program Planning

On September 19, 2019, the VPI  team hosted a webinar highlighting a CDPH homicide-related data brief (Data Brief 1: Overview of Homicide and Suicide Deaths in California (PDF)), the results of the 2018 California Safety and Wellbeing Survey on Firearm Ownership in California, and a local level example (Los Angeles County) of how data can be used to guide violence prevention program planning and development.

Primary Prevention Efforts to Decrease Homicide Rates in CA

On October 17, 2019, the VPI team hosted a webinar highlighting the California Violence Intervention and Prevention (CalVIP) Program, administered by the Board of State and Community Corrections, and the first public health department to receive a CalVIP grant (City of Pasadena ā€“ Public Health Department). This webinar also highlighted the local level primary prevention work of the Monterey County Health Department.
