Adolescence, defined as the period between 12 years and 24 years of maturity, is a significant period of time when young people learn about reproductive and sexual health. Supporting sexual health in adolescents acknowledges that sexuality is a healthy part of development and adolescents are active agents in their sexual and reproductive choices. Adolescent sexual health education, programs and services are the building blocks to support healthy sexual behaviors, healthy relationships, healthy pregnancies (if and when they choose to have a baby) and healthy families.
