Stay home

  • If you have symptoms of COVID-19, you should stay home and away from others (isolate) to prevent spreading the disease to your family, friends, and community.
  • You should get tested (see below) and continue isolating while waiting for test results. If you cannot test, you should isolate for 10 days* after the day your symptoms started.
  • You should wear a well-fitting mask around others, especially when indoors (including at home) and around those with a high risk for severe disease, while waiting for test results.
  • If you test positive for COVID-19, continue wearing a mask around others for 10 days* after your symptoms started, even if you stop isolating earlier. Others should wear a well-fitting mask when around you during your isolation, especially if they are at high risk for severe COVID-19.

2

Get tested

  • You should test as soon as possible if you have symptoms, even if you are vaccinated or had COVID-19 before. Use an antigen test and not a PCR test if you have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 90 days.
  • If you have symptoms but test negative using a rapid at-home (antigen) test, continue to isolate. Take another test, either antigen or PCR test, 1-2 days* later. This is especially recommended if you took your first antigen test within the first 1-2 days of your symptoms starting.
  • You should wear a well-fitting mask around others for 10 days* following your exposure, especially when indoors and around those at higher risk for getting very ill with COVID-19.
  • If you test positive or do not test, you should continue to isolate and test again on Day 5* (or later) after your symptoms started.
  • You may end isolation after Day 5* if you test negative on Day 5 or later AND you have no fever** AND any other symptoms are improving. Otherwise, you may end isolation after 10 days once any fever** has resolved.

* Day 0 is your exposure date (when you were near someone with COVID-19).

** No fever for past 24 hours without taking fever-reducing medication.
