About the Test to Treat Program

If you have COVID-19 symptoms, you can get tested, be seen by a health care provider, and receive medication -- all in one place at a Test to Treat site.

If you have medical conditions which make you more likely to get very sick with COVID-19, you may be eligible to receive treatments. Both adults and children over 12 can receive treatments.

Don't have health insurance? You can access testing and treatment services for free at OptumServe Test to Treat locations.

The California Department of Public Health is expanding testing sites across the state to provide both testing and immediate treatment for individuals who are candidates for COVID-19 treatments. This expansion will improve access to COVID-19 treatments for uninsured Californians.

California's expansion of Test to Treat is a foundation of California's SMARTER Plan, and aligns with the federal government's Test to Treat initiative in the National COVID-19 Preparedness Plan.

Accessing COVID-19 Treatments

COVID-19 treatments work best when taken soon after symptoms begin, so act quickly. Here is how to access outpatient COVID-19 treatments if you have symptoms:

  1. Talk to your health care provider right after you notice symptoms to learn if you qualify for a COVID-19 treatment. Learn how to talk to a health care provider from home using telehealth.

  2. If you do not have a health care provider or do not hear back from your provider within a few days, visit a Test to Treat location to get rapid testing and find out if you are eligible for treatments.

  3. If you do not have insurance, visit an OptumServe location.

COVID-19 Treatments Are Not a Substitute for the COVID-19 Vaccine

COVID-19 vaccinations remain the most effective tool in preventing severe illness, hospitalization and death from COVID-19. Vaccination appointments can be made by visiting myturn.ca.gov or calling 1-833-422-4255. The consent of a parent or legal guardian may be needed for those under age 18 to receive a vaccination. Visit Vaccinate All 58 to learn more about safe and effective vaccines available for all Californians 5 years of age and older.
