× The federal government has shut down due to the failures of the President and Congress to continue government funding. Millions of Californians receiving benefits from state programs may be impacted. For now, California’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) will continue to provide services and enroll eligible families as long as funding is available. No new federal funding to California WIC will be provided until the President and Congress take action. Families should continue to use their WIC benefits and attend their WIC appointments. Test Order - Modified Carbapenem Inhibition Method

Pre-Approval Required:

Isolates must be confirmed as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella oxytoca, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Klebsiella aerogenes , Enterobacter species or Pseudomonas aeruginosa. At this time, acceptance of requests for testing of other Enterobacterales organisms is on a case by case basis after consultation with HAI program at HAIprogram@cdph.ca.gov or MDL points of contact listed belowIsolates of Enterobacterales, other than those listed above, that are submitted without prior consultation will not be tested.

Acceptable Sample/Specimen Type for Testing:

Isolates must be confirmed as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella oxytoca, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Klebsiella aerogenes , Enterobacter  species or Pseudomonas aeruginosa. At this time, acceptance of requests for testing of other Enterobacterales organisms is on a case by case basis after consultation with HAI program at HAIprogram@cdph.ca.gov or MDL points of contact listed below. Isolates of Enterobacterales , other than those listed above, that are submitted without prior consultation will not be tested. If an isolate is positive for a known carbapenemase gene by a molecular method, the mCIM will not be performed.

Storage & Preservation of Sample/Specimen Prior to Shipping:

Store at ambient temperature.

Transport:

Ship cultures on nonselective nutrient or similar agar in tubes with leak-proof screw cap closures.

Sample/Specimen Labeling:

Two patient identifiers on the specimen container and on the test requisition are required.

Shipping Instructions, Including Specimen Handling Requirements:

Ship at ambient temperature.

The results of the mCIM are for epidemiological purposes, and are not intended to guide or monitor treatment for carbapenem resistant bacterial infections.
