Epidemiologic Summaries Data Dashboard, 2013-2019

This dashboard provides an overview of surveillance data for the Epidemiologic Summaries of Selected Communicable Diseases in California, 2013-2019 (PDF). To view individual reports for each of the diseases featured in this dashboard, please see the CDPH Epidemiologic Summaries of Selected Communicable Diseases in California webpage. For an overview of definitions and limitations for this dashboard, please see Dashboard Data Notes below. Data inclusion/exclusion criteria for the 2013-2019 Epidemiologic Summaries are available in the Technical Notes (PDF). 

Instructions for using this dashboard:

  • To get started: Select/click the name of a disease in the list below to view specific data for that disease.
    • Note: Due to a low number of cases for some diseases, some graphs or visualizations may not be available for all diseases.
  • Hover over data points in the tables or figures to see additional information.
  • After viewing data for a specific disease, navigate back to the main disease list by selecting "Back to Disease List" at the top right corner of the dashboard.
  • To view and download data from any figure, select a figure and click the download icon at the bottom right of the dashboard. Then select "Data" to view the data summary.

Dashboard Data Notes

Definitions: 

  • Rates are expressed as the number of cases per 100,000 people in California.
  • Chikungunya and Zika became reportable diseases on June 1, 2016, and thus data prior to 2017 are not presented for these diseases.
  • "Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome" (HUS) includes cases with evidence of Shiga Toxin-producing E. coli (STEC), as well as post-diarrheal HUS cases without laboratory evidence of STEC infection.
  • "Listeriosis" includes neonatal and non-neonatal listeriosis cases.
  • "Typhus, Flea-borne" includes only cases of murine typhus.    

Limitations:

  • Due to a low number of cases during the surveillance period (2013-2019), foodborne botulism and tularemia data have been excluded from this dashboard even though they are included in the 2013-2019 Epidemiologic Summaries (PDF).
  • Data presented in this dashboard may differ from previous or future published data due to delays inherent to case reporting, laboratory reporting, and epidemiologic investigation.
  • The numbers of cases reported for some diseases are likely to underestimate the true magnitude of disease (see Technical Notes [PDF]).
