× The federal government has shut down due to the failures of the President and Congress to continue government funding. Millions of Californians receiving benefits from state programs may be impacted. For now, California’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) will continue to provide services and enroll eligible families as long as funding is available. No new federal funding to California WIC will be provided until the President and Congress take action. Families should continue to use their WIC benefits and attend their WIC appointments. This information is subject to change, so please monitor the California WIC website for updates.

Please be wary of potential highly partisan political messaging while visiting federal government websites for information related to the federal government shutdown.

Epidemiologic Summaries of Selected Communicable Diseases in California

Overview

California regulations require cases of selected communicable diseases to be reported (PDF) to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). CDPH and local health departments (LHD) monitor cases and disease outbreaks to identify, control, and prevent infections in an ongoing effort to help protect the health of Californians.

The Epidemiologic Summaries of Selected Communicable Diseases in California describe the incidence and distribution of selected infectious diseases in California, with descriptions by county or region, sex, age group, race/ethnicity, and month of estimated illness onset, as applicable.

The Epidemiologic Summaries are organized into separate chapters containing a summary of each selected infectious disease. Each disease chapter contains a plain language overview (Key Findings), followed by detailed background information, California reporting requirements and case definitions, epidemiology of the specific disease, corresponding figures, commentary, and references. The Technical Notes describe the definitions, methods, and limitations associated with the Epidemiologic Summaries.
