Farmers' Markets
California farmers provide nutritious foods to families throughout the state, the nation, and the world. The WIC Program supports the consumption of fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables, and encourages shopping at farmersā markets. The WIC Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) and the Fruit and Vegetable Check (FVC) program provide increased access to fresh, nutritious, locally grown fruits and vegetables from farmers' markets to WIC families.
In May 2010, the first farmers' market in California was authorized to accept the monthly WIC fruit and vegetable checks. Since 2010, over 300 farmers and 100 farmersā markets throughout the state have been authorized to accept the benefit from WIC families.
