× The federal government has shut down due to the failures of the President and Congress to continue government funding. Millions of Californians receiving benefits from state programs may be impacted. For now, California’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) will continue to provide services and enroll eligible families as long as funding is available. No new federal funding to California WIC will be provided until the President and Congress take action. Families should continue to use their WIC benefits and attend their WIC appointments. Volunteer Internships

The California Department of Public Health's Volunteer Internship Program supports students and working professionals seeking experience in the field of public health. Volunteer internships are offered on a continuous basis with placement availability determined by the needs of the Department. Internship placements are matched to align with the intern's academic and professional goals. 

Eligibility

  • Open to college students at all grade levels
  • Open to graduate and post-graduate students
  • Open to non-student adults seeking experience in a new field

Duration

Volunteer Internships typically have a duration of 3 to 4 months, working 8 to 20 hours per week. Most internships align with the Spring, Summer, and Fall cohorts, but placement can begin at any time in the year to accommodate intern and Department needs. 

How to Apply

Submit your resume and cover letter to the CDPH Volunteer Internship Program Interest Application Form. Applications are reviewed monthly. If no placements are available, your application will be saved for future consideration.
