December 29, 2017 ā€“ The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has lifted the last remaining health advisory for Dungeness crab caught along the California Coast. CDPH lifted this advisory today due to recent tests showing that the amount of domoic acid has declined to low or undetectable levels in Dungeness crabs caught in the area, indicating that they are safe to consume.

December 28, 2017 - The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) issued 10 penalties today to nine California hospitals along with fines totaling $549,555 after investigations found the facilitiesā€™ noncompliance with licensing requirements caused, or was likely to cause, serious injury or death to patients.

December 26, 2017 - The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) announced today that View Heights Convalescent Hospital, a skilled nursing facility in Los Angeles County, has received a Class ā€œAAā€ citation, the most severe penalty under State law, and a $100,000 fine from the State of California.
 
CDPH Lifts Dungeness Crab Health Advisory in Mendocino and Humboldt Counties
December 22, 2017 - The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has lifted the health advisory for Dungeness crab caught in coastal waters north of Fort Bragg and Eureka.

Californiaā€™s Adolescent Birth Rate Drops to Another Record Low
November 14, 2017 - The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) announced today that California's adolescent birth rate continues to decline. In 2015, there were 17.6 births per 1,000 females aged 15-19: a 
10 percent decline from the 2014 rate of 19.6 and a 62 percent decline from the 2000 rate of 46.7.

Sport-Harvested Mussel Quarantine Lifted along the California Coast
October 31, 2017 - California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Director and State Public Health Officer Dr. Karen Smith announced today that the statewide annual quarantine on mussels taken by sport harvesters from Californiaā€™s ocean waters ends at midnight on Tuesday, October 31, 2017. 

October 24, 2017 - The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is advising consumers not to eat the viscera (internal organs) of lobsters caught near Santa Cruz Island in Santa Barbara County, and Anacapa Island in Ventura County, due to the detection of dangerous levels of domoic acid, a naturally occurring toxin.

State Health Officer Urges Caution During Wildfire Cleanup
October 19, 2017 - California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Director and State Health Officer Dr. Karen Smith today advised residents of recently burned areas to use caution in cleaning up ash from recent wildfires.

Hepatitis C Rates in Young Adults Increasing in California
June 27, 2017 - New data released today by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) show an increase in newly reported hepatitis C cases among young adults in the state. Between 2007 and 2015, newly reported hepatitis C infections increased 55 percent among men 20-29 years of age and 37 percent among women in the same age group.

April 26, 2017 - The California Department of Public Health announced that consumers who have prescription drugs that are no longer needed or are expired can dispose of them safely on National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, Saturday, April 29.

April 20, 2017 - The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) issued 17 penalties today to 14 California hospitals, along with fines totaling $1,135,980.
