× The federal government has shut down due to the failures of the President and Congress to continue government funding. Millions of Californians receiving benefits from state programs may be impacted. For now, California’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) will continue to provide services and enroll eligible families as long as funding is available. No new federal funding to California WIC will be provided until the President and Congress take action. Families should continue to use their WIC benefits and attend their WIC appointments. This information is subject to change, so please monitor the California WIC website for updates.

Please be wary of potential highly partisan political messaging while visiting federal government websites for information related to the federal government shutdown.

Maternal and Infant Health Assessment (MIHA)

-----------Draft only. For latest edits or comments see Word outline.-----------

The Maternal and Infant Health Assessment (MIHA) is an annual, statewide-representative survey of California residents with a recent live birth.

MIHA collects self-reported information about maternal and infant experiences and about maternal attitudes and behaviors before, during and shortly after pregnancy.

MIHA is a collaborative effort of the Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health (MCAH) Division of the California Department of Public Health and the Center for Health Equity at the University of California, San Francisco . The MIHA project is supported by the California Department of Public Health using federal funds from the Title V Maternal and Child Health Block Grant and other CDPH funding sources.

The MIHA survey provides information not available from other sources to monitor the health status of California birthing individuals and infants, and develop, target and evaluate public health efforts. MIHA data are used by local health jurisdictions, state agencies, community-based organizations, care providers, and others that support public health program planning and policy development.
