AB 2679 (Chapter 587, Statutes of 2018) requires each GACH and APH to adopt and implement a linen laundry processing policy by January 1, 2020, that is consistent and in accordance with the most recent infection control guidelines and standards developed by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). GACHs and APHs contracting with medical laundry service providers must include in each providerās contract, by January 1, 2020, that the facilityās linen laundry is required to be processed in compliance with the facilityās updated linen laundry processing policy, and CDC and CMS standards.
AB 2679 supersedes the requirements of Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations for GACHs and APHs. The linen laundry processing policy adopted by a GACH or APH may differ from current Title 22 requirements.
This AFL is a summary of the provisions of AB 2679. Facilities are responsible for following all applicable laws. CDPHās failure to expressly notify facilities of statutory or regulatory requirements does not relieve facilities of their responsibility for following all laws and regulations. Facilities should refer to the full text of all applicable sections of HSC and the California Code of Regulations to ensure compliance.
