× The federal government has shut down due to the failures of the President and Congress to continue government funding. Millions of Californians receiving benefits from state programs may be impacted. For now, California’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) will continue to provide services and enroll eligible families as long as funding is available. No new federal funding to California WIC will be provided until the President and Congress take action. Families should continue to use their WIC benefits and attend their WIC appointments. This information is subject to change, so please monitor the California WIC website for updates.

Please be wary of potential highly partisan political messaging while visiting federal government websites for information related to the federal government shutdown.

June 3, 2021

TO:
Skilled Nursing Facilities

SUBJECT:
Expiration of Concentra Contract for Fit-Testing Services

All Facilities Letter (AFL) Summary

This AFL notifies skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) that the Concentra contract, used to request fit-testing resources, will expire June 30, 2021. All fit-testing services provided by Concentra must be completed by that date.

Background

On January 13, 2021, CDPH issued AFL 21-05 which introduced a process for SNFs to request fit-testing assistance for staff respiratory protection. The State contracted with Concentra to provide training and fit-testing for SNF staff who must wear respiratory protection to safely perform their essential duties.

Required Dates and Timeframes

Effective June 30, 2021 the fit-testing contract with Concentra expires and all fit-testing services provided by Concentra must be completed by the contract expiration date. Concentra services provided after June 30, 2021 will not be covered under this contract and the individual facility will be responsible for remittance.

To ensure fit-testing requests are reviewed and completed prior to the contract expiration, CDPH strongly recommends facilities submit their fit-testing resource requests well in advance of June 30, 2021.

Other Considerations

Concentra currently administers a medical evaluation to facility staff prior to their fit-testing appointment, including a Respirator Medical Evaluation Questionnaire that staff must complete before their visit. When a facility staff person gives a positive response to questions 1-8 on the medical questionnaire or when the initial medical evaluation or subsequent examination demonstrates a need for a follow-up medical examination, Concentra provides a follow-up medical examination. Please note, all follow-up examinations and fit-testing services must be completed by June 30, 2021.

Facilities should continue to coordinate with their respective Medical Health Operational Area Coordinator (MHOAC) and use Salesforce for medical and health resource requests. For additional information on the Salesforce platform, please refer to AFL 20-79 on Access to Salesforce for Resource Requests.

If you have any questions about this AFL, please contact your local district office.
