2019 – 2024 Results for Perinatal Equity Initiative Midwifery

The Midwifery scholarship intervention focuses on increasing the number of Black midwives. It offers scholarships to students enrolled in midwifery training programs.

  • One LHJ selected this intervention for their community.
  • This intervention is not based on a specific model but centers on workforce development through scholarship support and outreach.
  • The primary “Is Anyone Better Off?" measure for this intervention is:
    1. Percent of Black students who applied to the midwifery program and received the scholarship award.

Successes

The midwifery website had thousands of visits (>3,000) every fiscal year during the period. Around one percent of visitors applied, with percent of applicants receiving the award ranging from 16.3% in FY 2021–2022 to 22.2% of applicants in FY 2023–2024.
