× The federal government has shut down due to the failures of the President and Congress to continue government funding. Millions of Californians receiving benefits from state programs may be impacted. For now, California’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) will continue to provide services and enroll eligible families as long as funding is available. No new federal funding to California WIC will be provided until the President and Congress take action. Families should continue to use their WIC benefits and attend their WIC appointments. This information is subject to change, so please monitor the California WIC website for updates.

Please be wary of potential highly partisan political messaging while visiting federal government websites for information related to the federal government shutdown.

Medical Waste Transfer Stations and Offsite Treatment Facilities

CDPH's Medical Waste Management Program (MWMP) ensures the proper handling and disposal of medical waste by permitting and inspecting medical waste treatment facilities and transfer stations (PDF) throughout the state.

For the purpose of medical waste management:

  • "Onsite "means a medical waste treatment facility, or common storage facility on the same or adjacent property as the generator of the medical waste being treated.

  • "Offsite" means any location that is not onsite.  Offsite treatment facilities are required to scan for radioactive materials in the medical waste stream.  See:  Radioactive Medical Waste Handling Guidance (PDF)

In order to store, transfer and/or treat medical waste offsite in California, complete the relevant areas of the application form for an offsite medical waste facility permit as required by the Medical Waste Management Act (MWMA) and Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations (22 CCR).
