× The federal government has shut down due to the failures of the President and Congress to continue government funding. Millions of Californians receiving benefits from state programs may be impacted. For now, California’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) will continue to provide services and enroll eligible families as long as funding is available. No new federal funding to California WIC will be provided until the President and Congress take action. Families should continue to use their WIC benefits and attend their WIC appointments. This information is subject to change, so please monitor the California WIC website for updates.

California Newborn Screening Results for Sickle Cell

The California Newborn Screening (NBS) Program has been screening all babies in California for sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait since February 27, 1990, and keeps the results on file. 

NCAA Student Athletes

These results will satisfy the NCAA requirement for college student athletes to have documentation of their sickle cell status.

You can request these results online by filling out a form. Please note:

  • It can take up to 30 days to process your request. If you need your results sooner, we recommend having a sickle cell trait test run by your physician.
  • Results are only available for California births on or after 2/27/1990.

To request results, please enter data directly into our online form, called CDPH 4400 (PDF), after you download a copy. The form allows you to use Adobe Acrobat to fill out the form and to submit it electronically.
