Nuchal Translucency Practitioners

In March 2009, the California Prenatal Screening (PNS) Program expanded to incorporate first-trimester serum analytes and nuchal translucency (NT) examination data to provide first-trimester combined screening for Down syndrome and Trisomy 18. The PNS Program accepts NT data only from NT practitioners who are actively credentialed by the Nuchal Translucency Quality Review Program (NTQR) or the Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF) and who are registered with the California PNS Program. A full list of registered practitioners is available on the Prenatal Screening Program website, in the Resources for Patients section.

NT exam data may be submitted online by creating a Screening Information System (SIS account).  Credentialed NT practitioners, or genetic counselors, licensed medical professionals, and certified medical assistants associated with a credentialed NT practitioner can create a SIS account by doing the following:

Credentialed NT practitioners:

• Provide verification of an active NT credential.

• Submit the NT Access Request form (PDF).

• This form includes acknowledgement that you have completed the SIS NT Online Training.

• Submit the Oath of Confidentiality (PDF) (no e-signatures).

If you are not a credentialed NT practitioner:

• Provide verification that you are a genetic counselor, other licensed medical professional, or certified medical assistant. 

• Medical Assistants can be granted SIS access if they are credentialed by any of the Medical Board of California approved programs or if their program is accredited by either CAAHEP or ABHES.

• Submit the NT Access Request form (PDF).

• This form includes acknowledgement that you have completed the SIS NT Online Training.

• Submit the Oath of Confidentiality (PDF) (no e-signatures).

• Submit the Letter of Association, to be filled out by a credentialed NT practitioner.

The above documents can be submitted by email to toki.fillman@cdph.ca.gov or by fax to 510-412-1560.  Once the Department receives all necessary documents, a SIS account will be created within 3-5 business days.
