× The federal government has shut down due to the failures of the President and Congress to continue government funding. Millions of Californians receiving benefits from state programs may be impacted. For now, California’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) will continue to provide services and enroll eligible families as long as funding is available. No new federal funding to California WIC will be provided until the President and Congress take action. Families should continue to use their WIC benefits and attend their WIC appointments. This information is subject to change, so please monitor the California WIC website for updates.

Please be wary of potential highly partisan political messaging while visiting federal government websites for information related to the federal government shutdown.

SUBJECT:
Revision to Clarification Regarding Licensure of Exempt Clinics as Stipulated in AFL 07-17, Dated June 15, 2007

The purpose of this letter is to provide clarification on the All Facilities Letter (AFL) 07-17, released on June 15, 2007. Licensing and Certification (L&C) notified all existing licensed clinics of the discontinuation of issuing licenses to Primary Care and Specialty Clinics that are exempt from licensure per Health and Safety Code (H&S) 1206 (a) through (p) – See Attachment. However we failed to clarify that, physicians or dentists may, at their option, apply for licensure for a surgical clinic as set forth in Health and Safety Code 1206(a) which states:

"……any place or establishment owned or leased and operated as a clinic or office by one or more licensed health care practitioners and used as an office for the practice of their profession, within the scope of their license, regardless of the name used publicly to identify the place or establishment".
Should you have any questions pertaining to this issue, please contact Lisa Hall of the Centralized Application Unit at (916) 552-8666.

Sincerely,
